How do runes work? - Official Response from PlayNC- Last Updated 08/09/2006 10:59 AM
Quote:
A rune is a magical item that can be applied to each piece of a player's armor. When used properly, runes will give your character an attribute bonus while wearing the armor enhanced by the applied runes.

To use a rune, simply double-click it and target a piece of armor. Once the selected piece of armor is clicked, the chosen rune will instantly attach to that piece of armor. It should be noted that only one rune can be placed on each individual piece of armor. Wearing that armor may grant you the rune's additional benefit, but in order for your runes to be fully effective, please keep the following points in mind:
  • Use runes that apply to the attributes for your primary profession. As runes are profession specific, a player can only use runes that correspond to their primary professions. For example, if a player's character is a warrior with a monk secondary profession, they can only use warrior specific runes on their armor. They would be unable to apply a monk specific rune to their armor.
The only exception to this rule is the use of Runes of Vigor. As Runes of Vigor grant health bonuses rather than profession-specific bonuses, any character may receive their benefits regardless of his or her primary profession.
  • There are three rune levels: Minor Runes give +1 to the stated attribute; Major Runes give +2 to the stated attribute and -35 to your total health, and Superior Runes give +3 to the stated attribute and -75 to your total health.
Runes of Vigor offer different benefits. Minor Runes of Vigor grant +30 to your total health, Major Runes of Vigor grant +41 to your total health, and Superior Runes of Vigor grant +50 to your total health.
  • Apply a different rune type to each of your five pieces of armor Runes can be applied to armor covering your head, chest, arms, hands, and legs. Keep in mind that since rune effects do not "stack," if you wear two or more runes of the same type, you will receive the benefit of only one of them. If they are of the same rune type and are simply different rune levels (minor, major, or superior), you will receive the rune benefits for the highest level rune that you possess.

For example, if you apply a Warrior Rune of Minor Absorption to three pieces of your character's armor, you will only receive the benefits of one Warrior Rune of Minor Absorption. To emphasize this point further, if you were to apply two Warrior Runes of Minor Absorption and three Warrior Runes of Superior Absorption to your character's armor, you would only receive the benefits of one Warrior Rune of Superior Absorption.
